A Brief History of Princess X
- short

Simplicity was key for sculptor Constantin Brâncuşi. Because of its simplified shape, he was forced to withdraw his sculpture Princess X from the Salon des Indépendants in 1920 as it was deemed to represent a phallus. Brâncuşi vehemently denied this.
Director Gabriel Abrantes takes us along the conception of the sculpture, posed for by the rich and noble Marie Bonaparte (1882-1962) from Monaco, an interesting character in her own right. Are we seeing what we’re seeing?
American-Portuguese filmmaker Gabriel Abrantes (1984) has had quite the career with his 18 short films for which he has received 11 awards and 16 nominations. He works and lives in both Lisbon and Geneva, where he teaches at the Centre d’Art Contemporain.
