"Pluk de Nacht" (or "Seize the Night") offers a quality selection of unreleased independent cinema, art and mixed media to new audiences through alternative ways of distribution, special events and free open-air screenings. Devoted to introduce new audiences to the finest international cinema and art, the festival screens films that haven’t been acquired or released by local distributors.
During ten festival days, thousands of visitors enjoy cinema, art and performances. Films are projected in the open air on a huge screen; the festival location is situated at a unique former harbour near the centre of Amsterdam. For a large portion of the audience Seize the Night is their first introduction to innovative cinema, as they don’t usually find their way to Dutch arthouse film theatres. In order to reach new audiences the admission to all festival activities and screenings is free.
The latest edition of the festival took place from August 5 till August 15, 2010. 25.000 visitors attended the festival, which is funded by the Amsterdam Art Board and local sponsors, making it the largest open-air film event of the Netherlands.
The 8th edition of Seize the Night – Open Air Film Festival Amsterdam will take place from August 4 till August 13, 2010.
The festival is organised by the Seize the Night foundation and is produced by a large group of volunteers that consist of young film professionals, artists and students that all share a passion for cinema.
