FAQ

Every summer the Open Air Film Festival Amsterdam (Pluk de Nacht) presents a unique selection of unreleased independent arthouse cinema, documentary, animation and shorts, attracting both film enthousiasts and professionals. Films are projected in the open air on a beautiful old harbour location in the centre of Amsterdam. You'll also find exciting art projects at Pluk de Nacht, campfires to warm up, excellent food and a stuffed bar.

When will the 2011 edition take place?
Pluk de Nacht will take place from August 4 till August 13 at Stenen Hoofd, Amsterdam.

What does Pluk de Nacht mean?
It means seize the night. Actually it is the opposite of carpe diem, get work done during the night and sleep all day.

What time does the film start?
As soon as it starts to get dark (around 21.30h) we start screening the short films. When the sun has left us completely we will screen the main movie. Be there on time to secure a ne spot.

What time can I enter the terrain?
The bar and the outside seating opens every day at 16.00h.

Is Pluk de Nacht for free?
Yes, admission to all festival activities and screening is free.  Of course you do pay for drinks, food and a comfortable beach chair.

Can I rent a beach chair?
Yes, you can rent a beach chair, you decide the price. Your donation helps making the festival possible. You can also rent a blanket if it gets chilly and you forgot your jumper. We really appreciate it if you would bring back your beach chair after the movie.

How can I volunteer?
So nice that you're thinking of volunteering. Pluk de Nacht had been organised and produced by volunteers since the first edition in 2003. For this year we need people to help building, decorating, painting, cooking, renting out chairs and blankets and people to run the bar. You can find more information here.

What kind of films are shown on Pluk de Nacht?
All the films that are showing at Pluk de Nacht have had success at the big international film festivals, but nevertheless never reached the dutch theatres. Pluk de Nacht screens documentairies, animation, short films and feature films.

What happens if it rains?
When the rain gets really heavy we will continue the show inside. The show will always go on!

When will Pluk de Nacht announce the programme?
We are very busy making a superb selection and we just started booking the first films. You can expect to find the programme online on our website around July 25.

Will I be able to understand the films?
If you're able to read this, you'll be able to understand the movies we screen. All films are either English spoken or have English subtitles.

What happens after the film?
Every night we throw a short but powerfull party at the Pluktent.

How can I become a friend of Pluk de Nacht?
You can make a donation via this link. Of course you can also become a friend on Facebook or sign up for the newsletter.

Is there something to eat and drink available?
Pluk de Nacht will take care of a stuffed bar and the best snacks to fill all the hungry tummies during the festival.

May I bring my own?
Well, we won't tell you not to but please keep in mind that we can only organise Pluk de Nacht if people buy a drink at our bar. If you do decide to bring your own, please make sure you clean up the litter yourself.

Where is Pluk de Nacht located?
Pluk de Nacht takes place on a former harbour site called the Stenen Hoofd in Amsterdam. If you want to know which buses will drop you off at Het Stenen Hoofd, or how a bike or car can take you there, click here. Unfortunately we don’t have parking facilities.

Where can I park my bike?
In the bikepark on the festivalground. If it's full please don't just leave your bike somewhere on the terrain but have a look at the signs where to park and where not to park. The fire brigade has to be able to enter the terrain at any time.

Is there anything else I need to know?
We don't really like rules and regulations so we decided that if we all keep an eye on each other everybody will have a fun night. Safety is very important so we keep emergency exits free en we will never place the fires to close to people and their belongings. Last but not least, we would very much appreciate it if you would place your empty beers in the crates and help putting the garbage in the bins.
