Shortsnight with Artist in Focus Johannes Nyholm | Sweden
Swedish multitalent Johannes Nyholm made his fame in the music video scene, but has in recent years increasingly been focusing on personal projects. His short films seem to originate in a twisted, child-like universe and appeal to an incredibly wide array of audiences. Nyholm's work has been presented at Cannes’ Director’s Fortnight, in multiple art galeries and is wildly successful on online video platforms.
Pluk de Nacht has been an avid follower of the work of this resourceful young maker and is proud to present his entire oeuvre - including the Dutch premier of his highly awaited short Las Palmas - on Thursday, August 11.

You never thoroughly realise just how things can change so much in so little time before your firstborn sees the light of day. And only then do you thoroughly realise how utterly destructive the nature of man really is. Especially when aided by brandy and a mild, tropical climate. Luckily we are bound by society’s rules and social values that keep our hedonistic selves in check. These elements, however, don’t seem to bother young miss Nyholm. Not one bit.
The Tale of Little Puppetboy| | Johannes Nyholm | Sweden | 2008 | 15’
Puppetboy paid his first visit to Pluk the Night back in 2008, after the round-up of his first series of adventures. The little clay figure isn’t too adorable, nor the prettiest of sights, but his completely overburdened nerves, his absurd pace, his lack of patience and growing mountain of desires will guarantee a blossoming of your motherly affections in no time.

The Tale of Puppetboy drew both local and international press coverage. In this portrait-gone-astray, we encounter a local television crew’s attempt to cover Johannes’s dedication to his work. We follow his creative process and are led into the eery grey zone where Puppetboy’s character begins to overtake his own. Finally, the question which of the two is the real clay-master becomes a rather unsettling, foggy and dryly hilarious matter.

After the hustle and bustle of the Puppetboy series, Nyholm’s follow-up is a teneous, shadowplay in which mythical figures move through haunting Scandinavian forests.
